What is Fear Free?

Founded in 2016, the Fear Free initiative aims to "take the 'pet' out of petrified" and get pets back for veterinary visits by promoting considerate approach and gentle control techniques used in calming environments. Utilization of Fear Free methods and protocols leads to reduction or removal of anxiety triggers, which creates an experience that is rewarding and safer for all involved including pets, their owners and veterinary health care teams. What you should expect here at Georgian Bay Veterinary Hospital?

We are a Fear Free Certified Practice and all of our team members are Fear Free Certified Professionals. We strive to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety and stress in your pet at every visit

Here are some of the ways that we achieve this:

• We provide pre-visit questionnaires to identify any potential triggers for your pet, as well as things that can make their experience more enjoyable.
• We have a dog and cat entry and waiting area, separated by pocket doors.
• We have separate dog and cat exam rooms.
• Our exam rooms are equipped with species specific pheromone diffusers to help calm your pet and make them feel more at ease.
• Our exam rooms are equipped with Pet Acoustics cat and dog music boxes that play specific tunes to help calm your pet.
• Our hospital is stocked with a variety of tasty treats, for all dietary restrictions, to help distract and create a positive experience for your pet.

If your pet is still feeling anxious, we offer pre-visit pharmaceuticals to help calm your pet during travel, as well as during their visit at the hospital
